The Joan Dykstra "Friend of Children" Award was created 10 years ago, following the former Wisconsin PTA President Joan Dykstra's term as National PTA President. It is given as a tribute to honor elected or appointed public officials who share our goal of promoting education and children's issues.

The recipient of this award is chosen each year by the Wisconsin PTA Board of Directors.
