101 ABC's of Reflections-Lisa DeRuiter/Bev Thomas
Join us for a fun, hands-on workshop that will give you all the ins and outs of the Reflections program. This is a great way to learn how to help your children through the process.
102 Parent Involvement Through Community Education- Nancy Kraft
Community education brings parents and community members together to identify and link community needs and resources. Learn how community education is being used in the Flambeau School District to nurture and promote parent education and involvement in linking the PTA National Standards for Family School Partnerships to parent involvement and other school-based activities. In this session you will receive ideas and resources on getting an active community education program started in your own school as well as specific ideas on integrating parent education into school-based initiatives.
103 In's & Outs of doing Your Audit-Linda Dubiak
Let's take a overview of how an audit should be done-from the information you will need to who should be doing the audit- and the report to state.
104 G.R.E.A.T- La Crosse Police
Aggressive behavior? Poor social skills? Bullying? The G.R.E.A.T. Program is a school-based, law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curriculum. With prevention as its primary objective, the program is intended as an immunization against delinquency, youth violence, and gang membership. Backed by the Bureau of Justice Assistance and based on prevention best practices, G.R.E.A.T. is proven effective. G.R.E.A.T. lessons focuses on providing life skills to students to help them avoid using delinquent behavior and violence to solve problems. The program offers a continuum of components which are: a 13-session middle school component, an elementary school component, a summer program, and families program.

Math and Science nights: This nationally validated program is aligned with state standards and is extremely effective in increasing parental involvement.Math and Science Family Nights create opportunities for parents, educators and students to work to together and increase student learning in all venues of education.
202 Robert's Rules or NOT- Rollie Cox
Use the parliamentary process in a simple way to reach decisions at your local unit meetings. In addition to the basic rules, other easy-to- implement procedures for better meetings will be covered.
203 School-funding reform:It's about your kids' futures-Tom Beebe
Wisconsin's public schoolsand the futures of your children and your communitiesare being strangled by State Government's unwillingness to adequately fund education. We need to change the way we finance our schools, but unless we meet the crisis head-on and as soon as possible long-term reform will be irrelevant for some districts and some kids. There is an answer to the crisis and a starting place for reform "A Penny for Kids" a one-cent increase in the sales tax dedicated to schools and property tax relief. Wisconsin PTA can make a difference and we'll talk about it during this session
204 Educating Parents about the College Admission Process: Strategies and Resources for Local PTA Organizations- Allen Phelps
Parents play a vital role in helping students chose colleges and universities that are well-matched to their interests and goals. A panel of Wisconsin admission and financial aid officers will offer an inside view of the admission process, as well as recommendations and on-line resources for local PTA chapters interested in educating parents about the rapidly changing opportunities in postsecondary education. The resources and parent education strategies examined will explore several topics, including early college and career planning, admissions, financial aid, and factors affecting student success in college. The panel will represent public and private, four- and two-year colleges, and proprietary business and technical schools.

Are you culturally aware? Come and learn skills to broaden your understanding of cultural issues. Develop skills to reach out to ALL the community members and broaden the reach of your PTA.
304 Male Involvement- Horace Staples/Terry Longo/Michael Knowles
This workshop will help you learn how to increase male involvement within your PTA. We will be sharing the best practices to increase involvement, promoting the Million Male March (men taking their kids to school), initiating partnership with different mens groups, and getting both parents involved in PTA.

A hands-on workshop offering opportunities for you to learn how to say thank you to the teachers, volunteers, staff - Anyone that deserves to know how much they are appreciated. You will be able to take these ideas back to other PTA members just in time for Teacher Appreciation Week!
402 Navigating Special Education- Mary Skadahl
Navigating The Special Education Maze has become a challenge for many parents and educators as they work together to support children with special education needs. Using the blue expandable Parent Record File, produced by Wisconsin Statewide Parent Educator Initiative, participants will learn how to Navigate more effectively by using the resources and tools available by many agencies in Wisconsin to assist them to provide more positive supports for their children.
403 Surviving an IRS Audit- Penny Larson
In the past several years, the IRS has turned its focus on small and mid-sized nonprofits with an eye toward protecting donors from fraud and misuse of funds. As a result, all non profits must file an annual return. During this workshop, you will learn what you need to file as well as the consequences of not filing or filing a late or incomplete return. Hear firsthand what a local Wisconsin PTA went through when the IRS came knocking on their door. You will discover how to avoid an IRS audit as well as how to survive one.
404 WI Early Childhood Association: Finding Your Voice as and Advocate and Leader- Peggy Haack
Like learning any new skill, learning to be an advocate is a developmental process, and who knows better about what facilitates a developmental process than parents and teachers! This workshop helps participants find their voice as advocates through activities that focus on skill-building from this developmental perspective. A child's success in school often begins in a high quality early childhood program. Our advocacy efforts can begin there and carry through the school years.
